It seems that an old but serious issue is back in new Honda Civic 2022. If you remember, this issue emerged in the car in 2016 after the launch of the Honda Civic X. There were many reported incidents where owners contacted the company about this issue. The automotive social media was abuzz with this scandal as the owners were unhappy. Basically, the steering rack issue caused a stuck-ness in the steering, and some people complained of a sound. In the desi language, its called the issue of Kanghi, which is serious and can cause an accident, so it was life-threatening. After repeated complaints, Honda Atlas took notice and after a time of two years, the problem was resolved.
However, several Civic owners claimed that the company initially didn’t take it seriously and asked them to use the car as it is. And when the warranty expired then, Honda told them that the steering rack needed to be changed, and it cost around Rs. 1.5 lacs or more. As the warranty was expired, the owners had to pay the damages.
New Honda Civic 2022, Old Problem
A few days ago, around 5 Honda Civic 2022 contacted PakWheels complaining about the issue in the steering rack. The first owner claimed that the company is not taking the issue seriously and waiting for complaints to increase. “They are saying once there are enough complaints, they will take some step, and there are around 15-20 owners with the same problem,” he told us.
The owner gave us the numbers of two other people facing the same issue. Both said they took their sedans to two different dealerships in Lahore, and they admitted that the problem is there. One of the owners told us that the dealerships has issued a notification reminder and asked me to come back after 2-3 months because there is a long queue for this problem and it will take time for his turn.
The owners believed it is a severe issue and highly disappointing after spending millions for their beloved car.
Honda Atlas Dealerships & Company Statement
To confirm this, we contacted multiple Honda dealerships in Lahore; however, none of them admitted that there is a problem with the steering rack in the new Honda Civic 2022. Upon insistence, one of the dealership officials accepted that they have received complaints, but “there are only 1 or 2, not more than that.”
The officials of all dealerships told us there is no such waiting queue for the resolution of the problem.
Meanwhile, we emailed Honda Atlas asking for their point of view on this problem; however, we are still waiting to receive a reply from the company. We will add the company’s statement as soon as we receive one.
