Ind vs Aus women’s ODI – Richa Ghosh, Shreyanka Patil, Renuka Thakur come in as India name strong squad

India have named a T20I squad unchanged from the one that took on England at home earlier this month for the upcoming games against Australia, but have rung in the changes for the ODIs. As many as eight players have gone out from the squad that toured Bangladesh in July, when India last played ODIs, and six players – Richa Ghosh, Saika Ishaque, Shreyanka Patil, Mannat Kashyap, Renuka Thakur and Titas Sadhu – have come in.
India, on a high after registering back-to-back Test wins over England – their first against them at home – and Australia – the first, anywhere – and will now shift to the shorter formats, with regulars like captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sneh Rana, Pooja Vastrakar and others figuring in both the squads.

They will first face Australia in three ODIs, on December 28, December 30 and January 2 (all at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium), and will put up a stronger-looking side than the one that drew the series 1-1 in Bangladesh. Ghosh and Thakur featured in the Test win over Australia, with Ghosh playing a key role with the bat and in the field, while Patil, Ishaque, Kashyap and Sadhu are among the new lot of players on the rise.

They have come in for Uma Chhetry, Priya Punia, Devika Vaidya, Anjali Sarvani, B Anusha, Meghna Singh, Rashi Kanojiya and Monica Patel.

The T20I squad is identical to the one that lost 2-1 to England prior to the two Test matches. The three games will be played in Navi Mumbai on January 5, 7 and 9.
